From Browser Games to Beats: Efe's Creative Journey
My food might arrive any minute, so sorry for the interrupts…
“I got into Internet at an early age, you know, playing browser games and stuff. I started watching YouTube when I was 10 years old, and I’m 20 now, and I’m still addicted to YouTube.…”
“I’m a student and I make music as a hobby. My dream is essentially to be a music producer, for, like, hip hop. And I’m currently studying international relations, so I have to do a lot of readings.”
Tour of Surf
“So the home is basically home. You know? Just vibes. And then for the music [context] … are the sites that I use often for sampling and other type of stuff. And then for the school one, this is this week’s readings that I need to do for school.”
“This is kinda dope too [pointing at the surflet]. I stole the idea from the guy that was explaining the surflets, Felix. At first, I did it with ChatGPT, and it’s wasn’t this cool. So I used Claude, because I heard that it’s better at coding. But the window wasn’t draggable. So I re-prompted it to make the window draggable let it remember when I refresh. Now I can add tasks. So it’s cool. No other browser does this type of thing. You know? Because it’s so customizable, I just give it a prompt, it generates something, and if I don’t like it, I just say: make it this way - make it that way. And it just makes it that way. As like, in the best way it can, as the best way that AI can.”
Managing school work
“So let’s say I, I just opened the browser. And I need to do, like, a school thing… this is this week’s readings that I need to do for school. I just like to see them there. So when I open it up, it kinda reminds me of them. That I need to do these. This is my school system, this is notebookLLM. It’s like an AI note taking thing from Google. It’s cool. And this is my Notion class notes. And you know, a tic tac toe and a GIF.”
“I sometimes have over hundred pages of readings in one week, and it’s kinda hard to attain all of that. So surf chatbot helps me with that. I try to read as much of it as possible, but it’s hard. So I just go Cmd+E.”
“I [also] use highlighting feature a lot. Let’s say I found laws of nature interesting. I just added a comment here. I don’t know what he means by dominions. And I would just do command+t and then you know, use vision. And then just highlight this paragraph right here, and ask it what does he mean by dominions? I use the Vision thing a lot. For example when I’m not in Surf, I press command+shift+1, and I don’t see this thing, and I’m like, what? Yeah… I just go back, and switch to surf.”
Getting into the headspace
“This is the one [context] that I made for music. These are the sites that I use often for sampling and other type of stuff, and finding samples.”
“So I use this website called Samplette a lot. No. It’s essentially, like, finds rare samples on YouTube for you. Where you can, like, adjust the BPM, like, there’s a filters in here. Yep. Adjust the BPM and the key and the style, and it just finds samples for you.”
Surf
“I actually described it [Surf] to a friend. I told him imagine this insanely customizable browser, that kinda eliminates external apps a little bit. You know what I mean? It also gets me in the space, you know, it gets me in the headspace.”
“And since it’s so customizable, I really love it. I’m obsessed with these little things. People browse the Internet - just browse the Internet. And I want it to have personality.”
